Hawraman is a mountainous and ancient region whose people have preserved their own language and culture and have continued for hundreds of years.
Songs and music are an important part of social life. Every ceremony, from weddings to the Nowruz festival, is decorated with the sound of the daf, the tambour and old songs.
Preserving this heritage is a duty for all of us. In 2024 several projects began to record the oral stories and old documents of Hawraman and its surroundings.
Life in the villages
Hawraman is a mountainous and ancient region in the middle of the Zagros mountains. Its people are known for their own language, culture and customs, and have preserved this heritage for hundreds of years.

The mountain is our mother and we are her children.
The villages are built in steps on the slopes of the mountains, with houses standing on the roofs of one another. This style of architecture has become a symbol of the region and brings thousands of visitors here every year.
Daily life in the villages is based on farming, animal husbandry and handicrafts. In autumn people gather fruit and wheat and prepare for the long winter.
